What HIV Actually Is And Does
HIV stands for Human Immunodeficiency Virus. HIV was identified on December 1st 1981, and belongs to a group of viruses called retroviruses. The virus weakings your immune system and stops it working as it should. The immune system would normally fight off an infection, but HIV infects key cells in the body’s natural defences called CD4 cells, which are the cells used to fight off infections. Many CD4 cells are killed by being infected, and others, including some cells that remain uninfected, stop working properly. Eventually all HIV positive people will develop AIDS although there is no time scale to say how long it will take for AIDS to develop.
