How HIV Is Contracted!
HIV can be contracted in four possible routes.

1. Unprotected sex with an infected person.

2. Intraveinous drug users sharing needles with an infected person.

3. Blood transfusions where the blood has not been screened.

4.Mother to child (if a mother is HIV positive the child will almost always gain the HIV antibodies BUT only during pregnancy and childbirth)

It does not matter who you have unprotected sex with or how you do it , if the person is positive (they may not know this) there is a risk that you will obtain the virus from them. Safe sex is always advisable and was something i ignored but now I am advising it and for the people reading this dont think I'm a hypocrite by saying to use condoms because I'm here to try and stop people going through what I am experiencing right now. Most if not all GUM clinics offer free condoms so if you go to get some also taking a sexual health screening would be advisable as I only found out I was positive by chance , and it has been in my system roughly 4 years so it shows that these things can be there and some people may not have a clue. If you are an IV drug user , do not allow friends or associates to share ANY of your injecting equiptment as this carries risk of HIV , either you passing to them or them to you (assuming one of you is positive , which you can be without knowing). I am not to sure how drug addicts recieve help or testing so I cannot really go into much detail on this but I do believe a lot of chemists and clinics offer needle exchange so if this is available to you it would be advisable to use , if you cannot kick the habit at least do it cleanly by using your own CLEAN needles. As far as blood transfusions go I am again unsure of this however I do believe this is mainly a problem in undeveloped parts of the world , as they do not screen the blood , where as in the UK , USA etc the resources are available to screen the blood used in transfusions , thus limiting the risk of transmission.
